Our Spice 101 class covers all the basics of how to use spices for vibrant, flavorful meals. We’ll cover the basics of how, when, and why to use certain spices in different contexts, demonstrate different techniques to bring out their flavors, and provide background information and seasonal recipes.

How it works
In this introductory class, we’ll explore using spices to intensify and marry flavor. You'll learn how to toast and grind spices, why to temper some in oil but bloom others in water, and how to layer spices for maximum flavor. We'll touch on the history of some spices, their prominence in different cuisines, and share useful tips and tricks.
We'll also introduce you to Curio’s Spice Flavor Wheel — a resource for understanding how to identify and layer flavors and spices — and demonstrate techniques through 2-3 approachable recipes featuring seasonal ingredients
