Event short description
Travel back to Dickens’ London and solve a most grisly murder. Christmas is cancelled and no one is happy about it – no one, that is, except Scrooge and his business partner Jacob Marley, who is soon found dead with a stake of holly through his heart. Play detective with your team as you work out ‘whodunnit’ in this slice of Dickensian festive fun!

How it works
Prior to working on the case together you will receive a dossier of clues to review so you can familiarize yourself with the case and its characters. On the day of the event you'll meet our hapless but charming detective who'll talk you through the crime scene and introduce your suspects. As a team, you'll deliver your final verdict which could see one (or more) of our suspects put behind bars! If you book a 3- or 5-actor event, you’ll have the chance to interview some of our suspects, too! Groups of 100+ include more than 5 actors and a Zoom technician to ensure smooth sailing.
Frequently asked questions
-
Are any of your festive stories suitable for groups who don’t necessarily want something ‘Christmassy’?
For a festive murder mystery which gets you in the festive spirit without being outwardly Christmas-centric, Murder! on Candy Cane Lane captures the mood of the holidays with generic winter/seasonal references. A Christmas! Murder at Skellington Hall and Who Killed Jacob Marley? are both set on Christmas Eve and include some Christmas references (carol singing, trees, presents etc). If you’d like to avoid mention of the season altogether, you can opt for our classic 1920s Murder! at the Manor all year round.
-
What will my group need for the event?
You will receive an Event Homepage link with your video conference and clues. Be sure to read them over prior to hopping on the call, so you're ready to interrogate these brilliant actors/suspects. Your group will play the detective and work together to decide who you think the killer is!
-
How does the murder mystery work?
Your team will be playing the role of investigators on a murder case, trying to figure out the murderer, method and motive. If you have booked a 1-actor show, the Detective will assist you and provide video witness statements from the suspects. If you have booked a show with additional actors, you’ll have a chance to meet and question them, too.
-
If I opt for a show set in a different time period, will the references and subject matter suit my company’s modern standards?
We have been performing for corporate clients in this evolving world for many years, and our actors always perform their roles consciously for a modern audience. We are constantly adapting our shows and the subject matter to better fit in with today’s society. We always perform as if to a family group, so you don’t have to worry about any bad language or offensive innuendos.
-
Will your host wait until my whole group is present before starting the show?
As we are running events all day, we need to stick to a strict time schedule. Our host can offer up to five minutes of waiting for the group to join at the beginning, and then the show must begin in order for it to end on time. However, any group members who missed the opening can easily catch up when you are dispatched into smaller teams.
-
Will my participants be split into teams?
If there are more than 20 participants, you’ll be split into randomly assigned teams. Each ‘team’ will deliver a verdict as to who they think the murderer is. If there are less than 20 participants, you’ll be given the option to stay as one big group or to be split. Please note, we cannot accommodate assigning participants to predesignated teams.
-
Does everyone have to get involved?
Our murder mysteries are designed so that there is something for everyone to be involved with, whether it’s directly interacting with our hosts and actors, or analyzing the evidence behind the scenes if they’d rather not speak up. We do, of course, encourage interaction as it makes the event more enjoyable for everyone, and we’d always prefer you to turn your cameras on where possible as well.
-
Can the actors join our existing Zoom meeting?
Unfortunately, the murder mysteries need to take place on our own hosted rooms as we have the correct licences, privileges and settings enabled. Our meeting rooms open up 15 minutes before we the event starts, so your attendees are welcome to join at any time.
Agenda / Run of show
This schedule will give you an idea of how the event runs. Please note, although timings are approximate, we try to keep to schedule but will wait 5 minutes for any latecomers. The event must end on time, however.
This is an example of a schedule for a 60-minute show. The timings of each section are slightly longer on a 90-minute show.
- 15 minutes before event start time: The room will open to allow the actor/s to join (they will be in a separate ‘green room’ – you’ll meet them later! Your team is welcome to login early, and if you’d like to address your team before the show, now is the perfect opportunity to do so. You will have received access to the clues, which may not mean a lot now until you hear about the crime – take this opportunity to familiarise yourself with them, though.
- Event start time:The host (Detective) will check in and make sure the majority of attendees have arrived.
- Introduction (approx. 10 minutes): You will be shown a video introducing the victim, the crime and its suspects. Your Detective will answer any initial questions or hear any first thoughts.
- Breakout rooms (approx. 5 minutes):You will be put into randomly-selected teams and given a chance to digest and discuss what you’ve just learned about the case and to have a look at the clues. You’ll have the opportunity to ask lots of questions, so here’s a chance to note them down so you don’t forget.
- Detective questions (approx. 5 minutes): You can ask the Detective anything they know about the victim, the crime scene, and any of the witnesses/suspects who aren’t here today.
- Suspect questions (approx. 20 minutes): If you have booked a 3- or 5-actor event, you’ll now have the opportunity to meet some of the suspects and interview them yourself! If you have a 1- or 3-actor event, the Detective will lead the questioning and will let you see some pre-recorded video statements of the suspects who are absent from today’s event, so you still get to ‘meet’ them and get a feel of who they are, and whether you think they’d be capable of such a crime.
- Breakout rooms (approx. 5 minutes): You’ve heard all you can from the suspects and Detective, and now it’s time to get back together with your team and figure out whodunnit!
- Verdicts (approx. 5 minutes): A spokesperson from each team will report back to the Detective and other team/s with who they think is the perpetrator, and what they think happened!
- Finale (approx. 10 minutes): It's time to find out what really happened – let’s see a video revealing whodunnit.
The winning team is announced (there can be only one!) and the Detective signs off with a screenshot which will be sent to you as a memento of your event with us.
