Event short description

Hosted by the team behind Gente de Mezcal, award-winning producers of artisanal mezcal, this class guides you through making three distinctive mezcal or tequila cocktails. Along the way, you'll learn how to layer flavours and discover the cultural significance of Mexico’s iconic spirits. If you like your cocktails with a kick, this one's for you.

It's a rare chance to bring charismatic, world-class bilingual mixologists from the heart of Mexico City, into the privacy of your own home or workplace.

How it works

  1. Book your date. Choose a time that suits your group, whether it's a team social, a client event or a celebration with friends.
  2. Get your shopping list. Once you've booked, you need to get hold of our list of ingredients and utensils. Everything is easy to find in a supermarket, and there are plenty of swaps if something's hard to get.
  3. Pick up your spirit. Each guest needs about 180ml of blanco mezcal or tequila. Anyone who'd rather not drink can make alcohol-free versions of every drink.
  4. Join us live. Log on from home or the office and our bilingual mixologists will greet you live from Mexico City. It's fully interactive: cameras on, questions welcome, and plenty of chat.
  5. Shake, taste, adjust. Over 90 minutes you'll make three cocktails or mocktails. We won't hand you fixed recipes. We'll guide you as you make your own choices, balancing sweet, sour, spicy and savoury until each drink suits your taste.
  6. Keep the recipes. After the class, we'll follow up with our online recipe book so you can make the drinks again.

Agenda / Run of show

A breakdown of how the event will go
  • 0:00–0:10 – Welcome and warm-up. We introduce ourselves, check everyone has their kit ready and set the scene with a quick introduction to Mexico's artisanal spirit culture.
  • 0:10–0:20 – Mezcal vs tequila, explained. A short, lively overview of agave, how mezcal and tequila are made, and why they taste so different. Followed by a guided neat tasting.
  • 0:20–0:40 – Drink 1: fresh and citrusy. The basics of balancing a cocktail: citrus, sweetness and dilution, with herbs and cucumber to layer the flavours. Plus the story behind the ingredients.
  • 0:40–1:00 – Drink 2: fruity with a kick. Muddling berries or pineapple, bringing in fresh chilli, and rimming the glass with Tajín or sal de gusano.
  • 1:00–1:20 – Drink 3: the adventurous one. A savoury twist that can include avocado and cilantro, or guests' own ideas using whatever they have left.
  • 1:20–1:30 – Q&A and toast. Open questions and a final ¡salud! all together.
